This competition for teams of 5th graders in Howard County is a battle of reading stamina and comprehension wherewithal. Students form teams of 5 and have until April 4th to become experts on a predetermined list of books (16 in total).
Our DLES 5th graders had a chance to learn more about the Battle of the Books several weeks ago when I presented at their grade level community meeting. A number of teams have already been forming over the past weeks, and now that registration has officially opened (Oct. 21st thru Nov. 4th) things are starting to materialize.
If your 5th grader is considering participating in this year's Battle of the Books with a team of friends, make sure you visit Howard County Library's website (click here) for all of the information you need.
Yours page by page,
- Mr. Winner
